PB109002.JPGInside Travel offers two types of trips: group and individual. The group trips are organised on a regular base - we foreseen three group trips per year: for Ethiopian Easter (March-April), in July and in November (for the Ethiopian Great Run). The individual trips are based on the personal interest and availability. We offer the possibility to choose between different moduls, and different levels of comfort.
More information about the concrete dates, concept and the preliminary programme can be found on the Inside Travel website: www.insidetravel.ch.

Summary from the first Inside Travel Pilot Trip

From 6th to 17th of November 2011, a group of 10 people, coming from Germany, Austria and Switzerland participated in the Inside Travel pilot trip “Ethiopia from Inside”.
The aim of the trip was to show Ethiopia in a way, normal tourists wouldn’t see the country. We arranged meetings with many different persons, worked in organisations for poor people, tried out to work with leather, bamboo, false banana tree ourselves, lived on the countryside – in a typical local house and in families in Addis Ababa.
There was a real dialogue, not only about Ethiopia, but also about world wide challenges and the question, how the gap between the rich and the poor countries should be filled up.
The whole trip was also a personal learning process: how to deal with the fact, that I am a tourist in a very poor country? Should I give money (or chocolate) to beggars or better to some institutions? How to discuss about religion and faith – something we usually are not used to do.
The trip was successful in several ways – most of the people were for the first time in Africa and they got to know Ethiopia in a unique way, like normal tourists usually cannot. The group had a lot of fun and exciting experiences and tried out many new things they would never do at home.
We managed not only to show the shiny sides of Ethiopia, but to give opportunity for reflection about local and global challenges, which the local population, and we all as citizens of the Earth face now and in the future.
With our first group of 10 people we managed to contribute with approximately 37’000 Birr (1’600 Euro). to more than 30 people from the countryside, above 60 people from Addis Ababa and to 3 NGOs, working with more than 80 people with disabilities and one local school.

For impressions of the trip check out the photo gallery.
